The central component fo KreetiLab is a modern embedded system like those seen in current day Smart Phones and Tablets. Unlike the typical computer systems KreetiLab has no moving components and consumes only 1.5W power while a typical PC consumes 200W. The reliability of the platform is high and can work in a typical village school and even run from a normal UPS. The display can be any typical LED TV with sizes ranging from 23” to 46” depending on the size of the classroom.
The capability of the KreetiLab to deliver video lessons for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and act as a presentation platform for ICT subjects like Python and Java is due to its impressive platform strength as shown:
SoC | Rockchip RK3188 ARM Cortex-A9 quad core @ 1.6Ghz + Mali-400 MP4 GPU |
System Memory | 2GB DDR3 @ 800Mhz (1GB DDR3 @ 800Mhz for Lite version) |
Storage | 8GB Nand Flash (4GB Nand Flash for Lite version) + micro-SD SDXC up to 128GB |
Video Output | HDMI 1.4 up to 1080p@60hz, andAV output |
Connectivity | 10/100M Ethernet port, WIFI 150Mbps 802.11b/g/n with antenna, Bluetooth – Bluetooth 4.0 (Not in Lite version) |
Audio I/O | Audio I/O – Audio S/PDIF, headphone jack |
USB | USB – 2x USB 2.0 host port, micro USB OTG |
The KreetiLab can be booted as an Android system or a Linux system. When we use it for video presentation we boot it to Android, as the system is capable of using the powerful GPU built into it. But for a variety of other software, like C, Python, Ruby, Java, LibreOffice based Word Processing or Database etc related to ICT subjects, we boot the system into GNU/Linux and run the respective software. KreetiLab is as powerful as a typical entry level laptop system. The students can learn the concepts of World Wide Web based document using HTML and CSS. In short KreetiLab is an ideal learning platform that can help many a child to explore the modern world of Knowledge using Internet.
KreetiLab can also be used a streaming video server. In this scenario, the Khan Academy lessons will be streamed from the server, and the students can watch the lessons in their own Akash style tablets.
